Early Life and Education

Andra Day, whose real name is Cassandra Monique Batie, was born in Spokane, Washington, on December 30, 1984.

Her family moved to San Diego, California, when she was three years old. Day developed her artistic abilities at an early age, joining the choir at United Methodist Church in Chula Vista and studying dance for 15 years. She attended Valencia Park Elementary School, where she became acquainted with jazz vocalists such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dinah Washington.

Day went on to attend the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts.
